Rob Senderoff has signed an extension to remain Kent State University's head men's basketball coach through the 2025-26 season. The decision was announced by Director of Athletics Randale L. Richmond.
"We are thrilled to extend the contract of Coach Senderoff," Richmond said. "The impact he has had on our student-athletes both on and off the floor has been tremendous. His consistency is a testament to the passion he brings to the program."
Senderoff is the winningest coach in Kent State history, going 196-129 in his 10 years at the helm, including a 99-77 record in MAC play. Six wins have come against power-five opponents, including a win at West Virginia in his first game as head coach. The Golden Flashes have had six 20-plus win seasons under his watch and have made the post-season five times, including the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
"I want to thank President Diacon, Athletic Director Randale Richmond and Senior Deputy Athletic Director Greg Glaus for their belief in me," said Rob Senderoff. "Kent State is a second home for me and my family. I am incredibly excited to continue to lead the Golden Flashes moving forward. I think the future is incredibly bright here at Kent State and can not wait to lead us to even greater heights!"
In seven of his 10 seasons, 'Sendy' has led a player to first-team All-Conference accolades, and six of his players have had an All-District season. Point guard Jalen Avery (2015-19) had tremendous success under Senderoff, twice leading all of Division-I in assist-to-turnover ratio.
"Coach Senderoff is a proven winner, "Richmond added. "He has ensured the program is at or near the top of the Mid-American Conference year in and year out. Additionally, Rob is committed to Kent State University, the Kent State community and his student-athletes."
Senderoff, 47, was named head coach in 2011 after serving the three previous seasons as associate head coach at Kent State. His journey to Kent State included previous assistant coaching stops at Indiana, Towson, Yale and Fordham. A native of Spring Valley, New York, Senderoff currently lives in Stow with his wife, Lauren, and their two daughters.
The Golden Flashes finished this season 15-8 overall and 12-6 in the MAC; Kent State has finished at .500 or better in all 10 of Senderoff's seasons. Earlier this offseason, Senderoff announced the return of forward Tervell Beck and the addition of transfer DJ Johnson from Rhode Island. Johnson joins Julius Rollins, Jalen Sullinger, and Cli'Ron Hornbeak to make up Kent State's 2021-22 signing class.
