Baylor baseball third-year sophomore outfielder Jared McKenzie was selected by the Washington Nationals in the fifth round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft Monday afternoon.

McKenzie, the 141st overall selection, becomes the 151st Bear to be drafted all-time. The pick marks Baylor's fourth-consecutive season with a draftee in the top-five rounds, the second-longest stretch in program history behind 1998-2003's six-year streak. BU has now had at least one player selected in each of the last 32 MLB drafts, dating back to 1991.

A career .346 hitter, McKenzie ranks third all-time on Baylor's career batting average leaderboard. He capped off his collegiate tenure with 21 total home runs and 91 RBI, while slugging .555 (8th all-time) over parts of three seasons. The native of Round Rock, Texas, was twice named to the All-Big 12 Team in addition to receiving multiple All-America honors for his outstanding 2021 campaign.

McKenzie joins Kameron Esthay (26th round, 2017), Jeff Mandel (19th round, 2007) and Cory VanAllen (5th round, 2006) as the four Bears to be selected by the Nationals all-time.
