The No. 14 Ohio State men's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with Lindenwood Saturday in Value City Arena in Columbus. The Lions scored the game's final two goals to force overtime.
The Buckeyes are now 2-0-1 on the year, with Lindenwood 1-2-1, as Ohio State won the opener, 4-2. The series was the first between the teams.
The Short Story
Ohio State led 1-0 after the first period on a Theo Wallberg power play goal and was up 2-0 through 40 minutes with Scooter Brickey scoring in the second. Lindenwood drew within one early in the third and then tied the game with 2:15 remaining. Neither team was able to score in the five-minute 3-on-3 overtime. An exhibition shootout followed, with Ohio State winning on goals from Davis Burnside and Cam Thiesing and two saves from Logan Terness. Terness ended the game with 26 saves, as Ohio State outshot Lindenwood, 35-28. The Buckeyes were 2-for-2 on the penalty kill, including a major, and were 1-for-5 on the power play.
How it Happened
- The first goal of the game came on a Buckeye power play at 18:33, with a shot from defenseman Theo Wallberg from the point going in for his first collegiate goal, set up by Max Montes and Cam Thiesing.
- The Buckeye penalty kill had a strong opening period, holding Lindenwood to just one shot in 3:29 of a major opportunity before a Lion penalty ended their chance. Ohio State scored once on two power play chances in the stanza.
- Lindenwood had the edge in shots, 9-8, over the opening 20 minutes.
- The lone goal of the second came from Buckeye defenseman Scooter Brickey, as he tallied at 6:52, scoring from the faceoff circle off a pass from Thomas Weis. Stephen Halliday had the assist on the goal, Brickey's second of the year. The assist was the first point for Weis as a Buckeye.
- The Buckeyes outshot the Lions, 15-6, in the middle period, with seven coming on three combined power play chances.
- Just 3:04 into the third Kyle Jeffers put Lindenwood on the board and a redirect from Austin Fraser at 17:45 tied the game at two.
- The Lions had 11 shots in the third, with Ohio State putting eight on net. Each team had one power play chance in the final period.
- In overtime, each team put three shots on net but the goalies held strong.
- The game ended as a tie after the five-minute overtime.
- For the game, Ohio State outshot Lindenwood, 35-28, and Logan Terness made 26 saves in 64:35. Ohio State blocked 10 shots, led by Brickey with two. Lindenwood had 17 shot blocks.

- Ohio State will be on the road the next two weekends.
- The squad will begin Big Ten play at No. 6 Michigan, with games at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 and 7 p.m. Oct. 21 in Ann Arbor. Game one will be televised by BTN and game two will be streamed through Big Ten Plus.
- A non-conference series at Omaha follows Oct. 27-28, with puck drop set for 8:07 p.m. ET both nights.
