Rising senior defenseman Eamon Powell has been elected to serve as captain of the Boston College men's hockey team for the 2023-24 season. Rising senior forward Gentry Shamburger will serve as an assistant captain for the Eagles.
Both players were chosen to serve in leadership roles by their teammates. It marks the second straight season that a defenseman will wear the 'C' for the Eagles as Powell takes over the captaincy from Marshall Warren.
Powell nearly doubled his career point total as a junior last season with five goals and 17 assists for 22 points, eclipsing his previous career-high of 14 points as a freshman. The Marcellus, New York native skated in all 36 games and led the team with a plus-7 rating and 60 blocked shots. He also led the Eagles in minutes played and won the team's James E. Tiernan Most Improved Player Award.
Shamburger has skated in 50 career games at Boston College, playing multiple positions as both a forward and a defenseman. The Atlanta native scored his first career goal as a sophomore during the 2021-22 campaign and earned a spot on the 2022 Hockey East All-Academic Team.
