Jake Wise, who recently completed his collegiate career with the Ohio State men’s hockey team, has signed a professional tryout with the AHL Charlotte Checkers, the team announced.
A fifth-year senior from Reading, Mass., Wise was a Second Team All-Big Ten selection in 2022-23. He skated in all 40 games and was second in scoring for the Buckeyes with 39 points, ranking fourth with 12 goals and third with 27 assists, all career highs. Wise led the NCAA with 493 faceoff wins and was tied for seventh nationally with nine power play goals, ranking second in the B1G. He was part of the nation’s best penalty kill (.887).
A team co-captain, Wise helped the Buckeyes to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and a third-place finish in the Big Ten, with the squad 21-16-3. He had a point in all but 12 games, including three (1g, 2a) in a Big Ten Tournament semifinal game at Michigan and four assists in an NCAA Tournament win vs. Harvard. He was named to the NCAA Bridgeport Regional All-Tournament Team.
In his collegiate career, Wise had 84 points, with 25 goals and 59 assists, in 125 games.
He earned Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten accolades as a sport industry major.
