Four former University of New Hampshire men's hockey players will compete in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Defenseman Brett Pesce (2012-15) and the Carolina Hurricanes will take on the Boston Bruins on Monday, May 2 at 7 PM on ESPN. Pesce had an outstanding regular season with seven goals and 21 assists for 28 points over 70 games. Pesce is currently in his seventh season in the NHL with a total of 31 goals and 124 assists for 155 points. He has played in 26 career NHL playoff games with two goals and nine assists for 11 points.
Then at 10 PM on ESPN2, forward Warren Foegele (2014-15) and the Edmonton Oilers will start a first-round series with the LA Kings. He appeared in all 82 games this season, with 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points. Foegele is playing in his fifth season in the NHL and his first with the Oilers. He has a total of 47 goals and 47 assists for 94 career points. Foegele played in 33 playoff games with the Carolina Hurricanes as he posted seven goals and five assists for 12 points.
Goalie Casey DeSmith (2011-14) will be making his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut as the Pittsburgh Penguins will play the New York Rangers on Tuesday, May 3 at 7 PM on ESPN. During the regular season he played in 26 games with 24 starts with an 11-6-0 record with the Penguins. This is his fourth NHL season as he has played in a total of 96 games with 82 starts with a 43-28-0 record.
Defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk (2011-14) and the Washington Capitals will begin a series against the Florida Panthers also on Tuesday at 7:30 PM on ESPN2. He recorded a career-best 17 points during the regular season with one goal and a career-best 16 assists over 72 games. van Riemsdyk is playing in his eighth season in the NHL and his second season with the Washington Capitals. He has a total of 17 goals and 72 assists for 89 career points. He has appeared in 26 playoff games with one goal and one assist for two points. van Riemsdyk won the Stanley Cup in 2015 with Chicago.
A total of six former Wildcats played in the NHL this season. James van Riemsdyk tallied 24 goals and 14 assists for 38 points for Philadelphia as he played in his 13th NHL season and now has 288 goals and 274 assists for 562 career points. Andrew Poturalski played in two NHL games this season with two assists and two points for Carolina. He led the AHL this season with 101 points.
