MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU continues to secure verbal commitments in the Class of 2022 at a steady rate. On Saturday, Christion Stokes became the eighth future Mountaineer to commit in the last five weeks. Stokes is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety from Harper Woods High School in Michigan. Stokes received a scholarship offer from West Virginia on April 8, 2020. He also holds offers from Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Iowa, Kansas, Kent State, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Penn State, Syracuse, Toledo, Western Michigan. Stokes visited Morgantown in early-June and also took official visits to Iowa and Michigan State last month.Stokes is listed as a 3-star recruit by Rivals. He is the 13th verbal commitment WVU’s next recruiting class
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU’s next recruiting class has been bolstered by a verbal commitment from a four-star cornerback from South Florida. 6-foot, 178-pound rising senior Jacolby Spells selected West Virginia over other finalists Arizona State, Arkansas, Indiana and Miami.Spells also holds scholarship offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan State, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Toledo, Vanderbilt, Virginia, UAB and UCF. He received an offer from West Virginia in May 2020.Spells plays for American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida. The Patriots claimed the Florida 5A state championship last fall with an 11-2 record. He collected 32 tackles and an interception in 11 games. Spells’ high school head coach is 11-year NFL defensive back Patrick Surtain.Mumu Bin-Wahad and Tyrin Woodby are also defensive back commitments in the WVU Class of 2022. In his junior season, Williams accounted for 1,763 yards from scrimmage (1,477 rushing). He also scored 19 touchdowns. Williams received a scholarship offer from West Virginia on January 12. He visited Morgantown last month and also took June visits to Louisville and Nebraska. Williams’ offer list includes ‘Power 5’ programs in Arkansas, Duke, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, USC, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. He also holds offers from Princeton and Yale of the Ivy League.WVU has secured verbal commitments from a trio of 4-star recruits in recent weeks with quarterback Nicco Marchiol and cornerback Jacolby Spells joining the Class of 2022. Williams is the third 4-star running back to commit to WVU in the last two seasons. Jaylen Anderson and Justin Johnson signed in the Class of 2021. Williams is the 12th verbal commitment in next year’s class.
