For a second consecutive week, Houston Football's Marcus Jones has been named The American's Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
On Friday, Jones, a senior from Enterprise, Alabama, returned four punts for 75 yards, including a 47-yard scamper to the Tulsa 18-yard line in which he narrowly missed out on a punt return touchdown for a third consecutive week.
Jones' first punt return went for 11 yards in the first quarter and set up a Houston scoring drive. He added a 15-yard return in the third quarter. Defensively, the cornerback registered four tackles and two pass breakups as the Cougars ran away with a 45-10 victory.
Jones is tied for the national lead with two punt return touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Cougars are among five schools nationally with multiple punt blocks (3) and multiple punt return touchdowns (2).
Houston returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Thursday when the Cougars cap a two-game road trip with a visit to Tulane. The contest can be seen on ESPN and heard on KPRC AM 950. Houston is looking for its fifth consecutive victory and third on the road.
