Florida Atlantic University football's super senior wideout John Mitchell has been named to the 2021 Conference USA Preseason All-Academic Watch List, as announced by the league office.
Mitchell came onto the FAU scene in 2016 as an up-and-coming wide receiver. Since that time, he has played in 33 games, was part of two Conference USA Championship teams and three bowl games. He joins a list of 20 Owls who can make the claim of participating in more bowl games than any FAU player in the program's history. FAU quarterbacks have found Mitchell in the end zone six times and he holds 616 receiving yards on 50 receptions, for an average of 12.3 per catch.
And, oh by the way, the Tallahassee native has earned his biological science degree and continues to strive towards his goal of becoming a doctor by working towards a master's of science in biological science. He has been heavily involved with the FAU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as well as community outreach, has been honored as a President and Dean's List member, and is a consistent member of the Athletic Department's 3.0 Club.

The Owls look to build off head coach Willie Taggart's first season in Boca Raton, where the Florida native led FAU to a 5-4 overall record, a 4-2 C-USA mark and to the Owls' third bowl game in four seasons.
The Owls will open the 2021 season at the University of Florida on Saturday, Sept. 4. FAU will return home the following week to serve as host for the "Howard Schnellenberger Celebration of Life Event" on Friday, Sept. 10 and will then take on Georgia Southern on Saturday, Sept. 11.
