Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells announced the signing of Wisconsin transfer Reggie Pearson to a financial aid agreement to join the Red Raiders for the 2021 season.

Pearson, who will arrive on campus in June for the start of summer workouts, will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Red Raiders after playing only one full season at Wisconsin. He started in 13 games that season to help push the Badgers to 10 wins in 2019 and an appearance in the Rose Bowl.

"Reggie is a talented defensive back who will absolutely add to the secondary we have built," Wells said. "As we continue to build this program and prepare for this season, we've focused on adding competitive depth in the transfer market, and we've definitely found that with Reggie. We're excited to welcome him to the Red Raider family."

Pearson finished as Wisconsin's fourth-leading tackler as a redshirt freshman as he finished with 60 stops, including 3.5 tackles that went for a loss in 2019. Wisconsin, as a team, accounted for 22 takeaways that season as Pearson was responsible for two forced fumbles to go along with four pass breakups on the back end.

Pearson previously played in four games as a true freshman in 2018, earning one start at safety in his Badgers debut at Michigan. He totaled five tackles that season, including one for a loss, while forcing a fumble before ultimately redshirting. He sat out the entire 2020 season.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Pearson signed with Wisconsin after previously starring at River Rouge High School where he was a first team All-State honoree his junior and senior seasons. He recorded 355 tackles, 22.0 tackles for a loss and 21 interceptions over his four-year prep career to help lead River Rouge to a Division 5 state championship as a sophomore and three-consecutive district titles.

Like many other Texas Tech signees under Wells and his staff, Pearson was also a two-sport athlete in high school, lettering in track and field while also participating as a member of the school's National Honor Society. He was listed as a three-star prospect coming out of high school by the likes of ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports.

Pearson is the 16th signee to join the Red Raiders as a transfer from another power-five conference school since Wells' arrival prior to the 2019 season. He joins fellow 2021 transfer signees in Malik Dunlap (N.C. State), Jesiah Pierre (Florida), Tyler Shough (Oregon), T.J. Storment (TCU), Marquis Waters (Duke) and Rayshad Williams (UCLA).
