Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells announced Friday the promotion of Antonio Huffman to Associate Athletics Director for Football Administration. Huffman's previous title was Chief of Staff for the football program.

In his new expanded role, Huffman will continue to oversee operations for the Red Raider football program, all while adding administrative duties within the athletics department. He will also be the football program's liaison to administration regarding any upcoming legislation pertaining to name-image-likeness (NIL), an important role not only for the football program but across college athletics.

"This is a well-deserved promotion and recognition of Antonio for all his hard work and dedication to our football program as well as the opportunity to promote him into a role in our athletics department that is evolving to become a key part of college athletics," Wells said. "Antonio is a vital member of this staff and someone I depend on each and every day. Most importantly, Antonio bleeds scarlet and black and works every day to make this program better. We're fortunate to have him as a Red Raider."

Huffman is entering his third season under Wells as he returned to his alma mater prior to the 2019 campaign for his second stint on the Texas Tech football staff. He was previously the Director of Player Personnel for the Red Raiders during the 2008-09 seasons.

Huffman, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, currently oversees the non-coaching aspects under Wells, including departmental budget, alumni relations and special events, team travel, summer camps, recruiting and all other day-to-day functions of a program that boasts more than 100 student-athletes and 35 staff members.

A three-year starter at defensive back for the Red Raiders, Huffman completed his Red Raider career in 2006 with 189 tackles, four interceptions and 25 pass breakups. He was named the Defensive MVP in his final game as a Red Raider after picking off a crucial interception in Tech's 44-41 come-from-behind victory over Minnesota in the 2006 Insight Bowl. That game remains one of the most memorable bowl victories in program history.

Huffman immediately joined the coaching profession following his playing career with stints at both East Carolina (2010-11) and Washington State (2012-18) in addition to his time at Texas Tech.
