(BCSNN) — Brady Smigiel, a four-star quarterback from Newbury Park, California, has committed to the University of Michigan, bolstering the Wolverines' 2026 recruiting class.
Smigiel, ranked as the No. 8 quarterback in the nation by 247Sports Composite, announced his decision Saturday, citing Michigan's academic and athletic excellence as key factors.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Smigiel has been a standout at Newbury Park High School, amassing over 11,000 passing yards and 147 touchdowns in three seasons. Known for his strong arm and accuracy, he threw for 3,591 yards and 49 touchdowns during his junior year, earning accolades as one of California's top prep players. Smigiel's ability to read defenses and deliver precise throws has drawn comparisons to some of the nation's elite quarterbacks.
At Michigan, Smigiel is expected to develop under offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, whose system emphasizes vertical passing. While the Wolverines already have a star quarterback in Bryce Underwood, Smigiel's commitment signals Michigan's intent to build depth and sustain success at the position. Analysts project Smigiel as a future NFL prospect, with his high football IQ and leadership qualities making him a valuable addition to the program.
Smigiel's decision to join Michigan comes after decommitting from Florida State earlier this year. His commitment adds to a strong 2026 class for the Wolverines, which includes four-star cornerback Brody Jennings and offensive lineman Bear McWhorter. Expectations are high for Smigiel as he prepares to compete at the collegiate level.
