Carson Hall, who spent the last two years at Western Kentucky and had previous coaching stops at Georgia and LSU, has been named the new outside linebackers coach at Baylor, it was announced by Coach Dave Aranda.

"Carson is going to be a great addition to our coaching staff," Aranda said. "He fits all the needs we had in coaching our outside linebackers and will be a great asset for the talented group of student-athletes we have in that room. Carson has won everywhere he's ever been and brings an energy that will allow him to really connect with our program. He will be a great addition to our defensive coaching staff and I'm looking forward to working with him on a daily basis. We're excited to welcome Carson into the Baylor Family."

Hall joins the Bears after spending the last two seasons as the defensive line coach at Western Kentucky and fresh off a promotion in January that saw him elevated to run-game coordinator. Hall previously spent two seasons as the assistant defensive line coach at his alma matter, Georgia, where the Bulldogs went 29-1 over the stretch and won a pair of national championships.

"What an honor it is to join Coach Dave Aranda and this Baylor Football program," Hall said. "I've always admired Coach Aranda and the program he has built, and have always viewed him as one of the best defensive minds in our sport. The opportunity to join his staff, and work with such a promising group of outside linebackers, is very exciting. My wife Laurel and son Miller are excited to join the Baylor Family and can't wait to get going in Waco."

A native of Dallas, Ga., Hall also coached a spring practice season at LSU, and did a two-year graduate assistant stop at Illinois and one season at Valdosta State, helping coach a national championship and 14-0 season in 2018.

Hall, who played defensive line at Georgia from 2014-17, was named to the 30 Under 30 List of up-and-coming coaches by 247Sports in 2024.

In 2024 with the Hilltoppers, Hall helped WKU earn a berth in the Conference USA Championship and the Boca Raton Bowl. The Toppers were fourth in the league in scoring defense, allowing 24.6 points per game and allowed only 20.1 points per game vs. their league peers. WKU ranked fourth in the league in sacks and third in turnovers in 2024.

The 2024 defensive line for WKU was led by first-team all-conference standout Hosea Wheeler, who led the league's defensive tackles in tackles and was also named to the Lombardi Award Watch List. In addition, defensive lineman Dallas Walker and Deante McCray earned honorable mention all-conference status.

Hall helped lead a strong defense in 2023 at WKU, his first season coaching the defensive line. Overall, WKU ranked seventh nationally in turnovers, with 11 fumbles recovered and 15 interceptions – which ranked 15th in the nation, while ranking 35th nationally in passing efficiency defense. Defensive tackle Hosea Wheeler was named all-conference, while McCray earned freshman-team honors.

A two-year run at Georgia as the assistant defensive line coach came during one of the best two-year runs in the history of college football, with UGA going 29-1 with two national championships. In 2021, UGA went 12-0 before falling to Alabama in the Southeastern Conference Championship. The Bulldogs then beat Michigan in the Orange Bowl and topped Bama in the College Football Playoff National Championship, 33-18.

In 2022, Georgia went 15-0 with the CFP National Championship, in addition to the SEC title and a Peach Bowl win. The 65-7 win over TCU in the CFP National Championship marked one of the most dominating performances in bowl game history.

While at UGA, he helped coach a room of elite defensive lineman, including first-round NFL Draft picks Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Travon Walker, Nolan Smith, and Devonte Wyatt.

His return to Georgia came after a spring season in 2021 on LSU's staff as the assistant defensive line coach. That followed a two-year run as the graduate assistant at Illinois from 2019-20, which featured the first bowl game for Illinois in five years.

Hall's first foray into coaching came with NCAA Division II powerhouse Valdosta State in 2018, that saw VSU go 14-0 and win the national championship. He worked with the outside linebackers at Valdosta State as a graduate assistant coach.

As a defensive lineman at Georgia from 2015-17, Hall helped the Bulldogs to three bowl games, including the 2018 Rose Bowl and CFP Semifinal, where UGA bested Oklahoma in double overtime to advance to the CFP National Championship.

He is married to the former Laurel Smith, and the couple has a son, Miller (one).
