(BCSNN) Glendale, Arizona -- The 2024 Fiesta Bowl at State Farm Stadium featured a slightly lopsided match-up between No. 3 Boise State and No. 6 Penn State as part of the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. Despite the Broncos getting the higher seed, it was the Nittany Lions that controlled things the entire game, eventually winning, 31-14.

“We played a complete game,” said Penn State head coach James Franklin. “Our offense, defense and special teams, we played complementary football, did some special things.”

Penn State dominated the game from the start, jumping out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Quarterback Drew Allar connected with Tyler Warren for an 11-yard touchdown pass, followed by another touchdown pass to Omari Evans for 38 yards. Boise State responded with a touchdown of their own in the second quarter when running back Tyler Crowe rushed for an 8-yard touchdown. Penn State added a field goal by Ryan Barker to extend their lead to 17-7 at halftime.

In the second half, Boise State fought back with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Maddux Madsen to Matt Lauter, bringing the score to 17-14. However, Penn State's offense continued to shine, with Drew Allar throwing another touchdown pass to Tyler Warren for 13 yards in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Nicholas Singleton broke free for a 58-yard touchdown run, sealing the victory for Penn State with a final score of 31-14.

Offensively, Drew Allar was the standout performer for Penn State, completing 13 of 25 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns. Tyler Warren was also a key player, catching two touchdown passes and finishing with 63 receiving yards. For Boise State, Maddux Madsen had an impressive game, throwing for 304 yards and one touchdown. Ashton Jeanty led the rushing attack with 104 yards.

Defensively, Penn State's Amin Vanover was a force to be reckoned with, recording one sack and two tackles for loss. Kobe King led Boise State's defense with eight tackles, including four solo tackles.

The Fiesta Bowl showcased Penn State's strong offense and a solid defense that has carried the Nittany Lions through the College Football Playoff. This win advances them to the Orange Bowl, where they will face either Notre Dame or Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

As for Boise State, the Broncos head into the offseason where they'll prepare to open the 2025 season on August 30th at South Florida.
