The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc., along with presenting sponsor A. O. Smith Corporation has pared-down the original 2024 Watch List to the nation's top 25 quarterbacks. University of Memphis quarterback Seth Henigan remains in the hunt for the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
This season, Henigan ranks eighth in the country in completions per game (25) while passing for 1,339 yards (No. 30 in FBS) and seven touchdowns while throwing just a pair of interceptions.
The Tigers' all-time leading passer moved into second on The American's all-time passing list in the 24-7 win over Middle Tennessee and now trails the all-time conference mark by just 1,824 yards (Holton Ahlers; East Carolina).
Henigan was named to six award watch lists this preseason – the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Davey O'Brien Award, Manning Award, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award – given annually to the nation's top senior or upperclassmen quarterback. He was also named to the Reese's Senior Bowl watch list.
Henigan is the Memphis-career leader in completions (963) and passing yards (12,103) while his 86 touchdowns are just four shy of Brady White's career record. The senior has logged 20-career 300-yard passing games and five 400-yard efforts over his career – both good for program records.
If Henigan throws for his career average in passing touchdowns (26) in 2024, he would enter the NCAA's top 25 all-time in that stat and would become just the second QB since 2013 to post four-straight seasons with at least 25 total touchdowns.
This year's award winner will be presented the Golden Arm Award trophy at the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award celebration the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, December 6, 2024.
The Tigers are scheduled to make a trip to Tampa, Florida, this weekend for an AAC matchup with South Florida at Raymond James Stadium, with kick scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 12.
