Cornerback Cam Lockridge and offensive lineman Jacob Spomer were named to the 2024 College Football Comeback Player of the Year preseason watch list, presented by the College Sports Communicators, Associated Press and Fiesta Bowl on Wednesday.

Lockridge and Spomer are among 90 college football players from around the country on the preseason watch list for the award. The duo are two of 10 football student-athletes from around the Mountain West.

Lockridge, who transferred to Fresno State from Hawai'i in 2022, has played in 17 games over the last two seasons with the Bulldogs. As a senior in 2023, Lockridge appeared in only four games a season ago before facing a season-ending injury and procedure. Having only played in four games, he was able to utilize a redshirt season for a return in 2024.

Known as a ballhawk in his collegiate career, Lockridge has nine career interceptions (six at Fresno State and three at Hawai'i) with two brought back for touchdowns. The native of Tampa, Fla. was named the 2022 Mountain West Championship Game Defensive MVP after grabbing two interceptions against Boise State. His five interceptions in 2022 were the most by a Bulldog player since 2013. In just four games played in 2023, Lockridge started each of them and totaled 12 tackles, 1.0 TFL, one interception and one pass breakup.
Spomer joined the Fresno State program from Diablo Valley Junior College ahead of the 2022 season. In his first year with the Bulldogs, Spomer started all 14 games at left tackle. He was the only first-year Division I player to see consistent time on the field for the Bulldogs that season. He was an All-Mountain West honorable mention selection in his first year.

In 2023, he started the first 10 games before suffering a season-ending injury at San Jose State on November 11. Despite not finishing the season, Spomer was still an honorable mention all-conference selection in 2023.

Since 2018, the award has recognized college football student-athletes for overcoming injury, illness, or other circumstances. At the conclusion of each season, in a vote by a panel of college football writers, editors, and sports information directors, three college football student-athletes are honored as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
