Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II is one of 80 FBS players on the watch list for the 88th Maxwell Award, announced by the Maxwell Football Club.

Gordon is one of five returning semifinalists for the award, which is presented annually to the outstanding player in college football.

One of 15 Big 12 players included on the watch list, Gordon returns to Oklahoma State with potential to make a run at the Heisman Trophy after leading the nation in rushing yards and winning the Doak Walker Award, unanimous All-America honors, Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and more Heisman votes than any other running back in 2023.

He was also a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and one of just three players to earn unanimous All-Big 12 honors.

In addition to leading the FBS in rushing yards, Gordon was also the national leader in yards from scrimmage (2,062), 100-yard games (9), 150-yard games (5), 250-yard games (2), second-half rushing yards (1,096), second half rushing touchdowns (15), fourth-quarter rushing yards (581), fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns (9) and carries of at least 20 yards (21), 30 yards (14), 40 yards (7) and 70 yards (2).

He was also second in rushing touchdowns (21), total touchdowns (22), rushing yards after contact (1,056 via PFF) and all-purpose yards (2,062). He averaged 6.1 yards per carry on 285 rushing attempts, making him the only FBS player last year to average more than six yards per carry with an average of at least 20 attempts per game.

Gordon became the first Doak Walker Award winner from Oklahoma State and just the fourth sophomore to win the award, joining Jonathan Taylor (Wisconsin, 2018), LaMichael James (Oregon, 2010) and Darren McFadden (Arkansas, 2006).

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 12 and three finalists will be unveiled November 26. The winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 12 and the formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on March 14, 2024, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia.
