No. 7 Texas Football blasted BYU, 35-6, in the first start of quarterback Maalik Murphy's career on Saturday at Darrel K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
The Longhorns (7-1) forced three turnovers and held the Cougars without a touchdown in the game.
Murphy made his first career start and completed 16-of-25 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns. Jonathan Brooks was the Longhorns' leading rusher and receiver with 16 carries for 98 yards and one touchdown to go with four catches for 40 yards.
KEY STATISTICS
- Xavier Worthy gave the Longhorns an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter with his first career punt return for a touchdown. It was Texas' first punt return for a touchdown since 2018, and the first one allowed by BYU since 2019.
- Brooks punched the ball into the endzone from four yards out to give Texas a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter. It was his sixth rushing touchdown in the last five games.
- Murphy connected with Adonai Mitchell on a 30-yard touchdown pass to give Texas a 21-3 lead at the end of the first half. It was Murphy's first career touchdown pass and Mitchell's sixth touchdown reception of the season.
- Murphy hit Mitchell in the endzone for a second time on a 13-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter. Mitchell extended his team leading touchdown reception total to seven.
- Jaydon Blue iced the game with a 34-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. It was his first touchdown rush of the season.

Texas will play its second-consecutive home game, hosting Kansas State on Saturday, Nov. 5, with the game time set for 11 a.m. CT, the Big 12 Conference announced on Saturday. The game will broadcast on FOX from inside Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
The Longhorns own an all-time record of 13-10 against the Wildcats with a 9-3 mark in Austin. The Horns have won the last three in Austin and six-straight overall against the Wildcats. Last year in Manhattan, Kansas, Keondre Coburn forced a fumble and Jaylan Ford recovered to preserve a 34-27 win for No. 24 Texas against No. 13 Kansas State at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Bijan Robinson ran for 209 yards on 30 carries and Xavier Worthy scored two touchdowns for the Longhorns.
