No. 19 Oregon State opened up league play at home by dispatching 10th-ranked Utah by a 21-7 score on Friday night.
DJ Uiagalelei connected on 14-of-25 passes with 205 yards through the air and a score, while Adrian Chiles went 1-for-1 for 23 yards. Silas Bolden led the receiving corps with 100 yards on six catches and a score. Jesiah Irish hauled in three catches for 62 yards. Damien Martinez's 65 yards on the ground paced the rushing attack.
The Beaver defense held the Utes to just 198 yards, well short of their season average (322.5) to take control of the contest. Easton Mascarenas-Arnold led the unit with 9.0 total tackles (5.0 solo), a sack and an interception. Andrew Chatfield Jr. followed with 6.0 total stops with 4.0 solo ones and a sack.
Oregon State (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12) got on the board on their first drive of the game when Martinez punched it over the goal line from four yards out that took nearly five-and-a-half minutes of the clock. The Beaver lead doubled when Bolden hauled in a 27-yard pass from Uiagalelei in the early stages of the second half. Bolden dashed 45 yards to the endzone for the final OSU score of the contest. A late Utah touchdown got the visitors on the board to avoid the shutout.
The win was the third against ranked opposition in the Jonathan Smith era and marked the seventh consecutive at Reser Stadium.
The Beavers will be back in action next week at California. Action from Berkeley will start at 7 p.m. and can be seen on the Pac-12 Networks.
