Good news for fans of Kansas State Football, which probably isn't something you read very often during a bye week. But the good news comes as head football coach Chris Klieman made a public statement about his future with the Wildcats, and it was good news, unless you root for Michigan State.
If you somehow don't know yet, the Spartans fired Mel Tucker this week after it was revealed the former Michigan State coach had allegedly harassed a sexual assault survivor and advocate.
Speaking to the "Big 12 Today" show on Sirius XM, Coach Klieman made his intentions clear by stating that he would, "be sticking in Manhattan [Kansas] and will not be a candidate for that job."
The surprising thing is that people would even suggest Klieman for the MSU job. The gig with the Spartans isn't considered an attractive one, by any means. Many will remember that current Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell opted to remain at Cincinnati, rather than even interview for Michigan State. Then, when a Big Ten job became available that was actually attractive to a good coach, Fickell departed for Wisconsin.
In short, Michigan State, its fans, and boosters need to drink a tall glass of reality, and remember who they are - no one special, not even if we're just discussing the Midwest exclusively.
It's likely that Klieman will remain in Manhattan for some time. The head coach of the Wildcats just signed an eight-year contract extension worth $44 million, that runs through the 2030 campaign. K-State will pay Klieman an average of $5.5 million per season over the course of that contract.
As mentioned, the Wildcats are on a bye this week, but will return to action on October 6th against Big 12 rival, Oklahoma State.
