Bad news out of Georgia, at least if you're a fan of the Dawgs. Head football coach Kirby Smart announced that running back Branson Robinson will miss the 2023 season with a ruptured patellar tendon.
The top-ranked back from the class of 2022, Robinson rushed for 341 yards during his freshman campaign.
The Georgia running back suffered the injury while participating in a non-contact drill on Tuesday, according to Coach Smart.
"It won't affect our run-pass ratio," said Kirby Smart. "We have capable backs. He was one of our better backs. When healthy last year, we think he was kind of coming into his own. He was learning how to pass protect. He had a really good spring while he was going, so we were really excited about where he was headed. He was explosive, twitchy, could do some things in pass pro and running the ball that maybe some of the other guys couldn't do."
Robinson was "looking good" during recent practices and workouts, having recovered from a turf toe injury the sophomore had suffered in the offseason.
Kendall Milton is the projected starter, having taken the most reps lately, but is still nursing a minor hamstring injury.
The Georgia Bulldogs are coming off back-to-back national championships and begin 2023 ranked No. 1 in the AP preseason poll, but the team will have a lot of new faces this season.
Carson Beck has been announced as Georgia's new starting quarterback and will open the season against UT Martin on Sept. 2.
