University of Utah junior linebacker Karene Reid has been named to the 2023 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, it was announced today by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation.
Reid is one of 42 candidates that includes 16 linebackers. The Lott Trophy is named after NFL Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott and given to the Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year that makes the biggest impact on and off the field.
The American Fork, Utah, native enters the season with 24 games and 20 starts in two years with the Utes. He joined the program in 2021 as a walk-on, earning a scholarship after the season.
In 2022, Reid earned All-Pac-12 second-team honors after leading the linebacker group with 72 tackles (9.5 TFL, 5.0 sacks), adding three pass breakups, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
He had four or more tackles in 10 of Utah's 14 games, including his season-high 10 stops (1.5 TFL) at Arizona State. He recorded at least one sack in three straight games against UCLA, USC and Washington State, also forcing a fumble against the Cougars with five tackles.
In 2021, he played in 10 games with six starts, posting 45 tackles (2.0 TFL, 1.0 sack), also contributing three pass breakups and an interception. His breakout game came against Washington State, recording a career-high 15 tackles with one sack.
