Old Dominion University Football senior cornerback Tre Hawkins III was named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the Sun Belt announced.

Hawkins secured a career-best 10 tackles, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and a pass breakup in Old Dominion's 49-21 victory at Coastal Carolina on Saturday. On Coastal's opening drive of the third quarter, the Chanticleers drove to the ODU 31 before Hawkins ripped the ball out of the receiver's hands and recovered the ball as well.

A native of Temple, Texas, Hawkins is third on the squad with 37 tackles, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and an interception.

Hawkins and the Monarchs return home this week to host Georgia Southern for Homecoming at 3:30 p.m.
