Cincinnati sophomore punter Mason Fletcher collected National Punter of the Week honors from the Ray Guy Award and the Augusta Sports Council following his performance at Tulsa last Saturday.
Fletcher punted six times for 264 yards for an average of 44.0. Only two of his punts were returned for -4 yards. He booted three punts inside the 20, and had a long punt of 45 yards to help lead the Bearcats to a 31-21 victory over the Golden Hurricane in the American Athletic Conference opener.
Fletcher has firmly established himself as one of the nation's top punters in 2022, ranking fifth in the nation with a 46.6 average. His 13 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line rank tied-for-fourth nationally and he has booted seven at least 50 yards.
Fletcher was named the AAC Special Teams Player of the Week following his Miami (Ohio) performance two weeks ago in which he averaged 48.2 on five tries, including a career-long 67-yarder.
The Ray Guy Award has been given to college football's best punter since 2000. The Ray Guy Watch List will be narrowed down to a 10-punter semifinalist list on Nov. 21. Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 29. The winner will be announced on Dec. 8 on the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.
