Head Coach Danny Gonzales has named University of Kansas transfer Miles Kendrick as the starting quarterback for the 2022 Lobos ahead of the season opener, which takes place on Saturday, September 3 against Maine.

Kendrick is the lone senior among UNM’s five quarterbacks on the roster.

Kendrick has looked good in both full scrimmages for UNM, and he has taken a larger share of the first team reps over the past week and a half. Kendrick participated in spring camp a few months back, although he was limited as he recoevered from an injury suffered in his senior season at Kansas.  Kendrick will play the 2022 season as a super senior, utilizing his extra year due to the COVID 2020 season.

“Miles has showbn great leadership and he has really taken to that role,” said Gonzales.  “He has been able to move the offense, and while in August I was a little worried if we would be able to run our whole offense because of his past injury, he has shown to myself and the team and staff that he is 100% and ready to go.  I’m excited to see what he can do for us offensively.”

Kendrick played in 17 career games with four starts for the Jayhawks, going 96-for-157 (61.1%) for his career for 853 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions.  He was not asked to run much, but he still added 101 yards rushing on 71 attempts with one touchdown.  He had his best game passing against TCU in 2020, throwing for 166 yards and two TDs.  Prior to Kansas, he played for one season at San Mateo under coach Larry Owens, seeing action in 11 games with nine starts.  At San Mateo he threw for 1,889 yards and 18 touchdowns, leading San Mateo to an 11-2 overall mark and a runner-up finish in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state championship game.  Overall he was 103-for-178, including a 91-yard completion and he added 417 rushing yards and five scores on 103 carries.

The Lobos open up play against Maine in the first matchup between the two programs.
