Some surprising news out of Baton Rouge on Monday as LSU quarterback Myles Brennan announced he plans to end his college football playing career.
Shortly after Brennan broke the news to fans of the Bayou Bengals, LSU head coach Brian Kelly spoke about the now former-signal caller.
"We are grateful to Myles for everything he has done for LSU Football," said Brian Kelly. "Myles is a great leader who has made a tremendous impact on this program, and he has earned the respect of everyone here through his commitment and love for LSU.
"Myles has always embodied the traits required to fulfill our mission to graduate champions, and we have full confidence those traits will help him succeed at every step in his journey as he moves forward."
The 2022 college football season was going to be Brennan's sixth with the Tigers. He now caps off his LSU career having appeared in 20 games with three starts for Louisiana State. He started the first three games of the 2020 season before an injury against Missouri sidelined him for the remainder of the year.
Then the following season saw Brennan suffer a season-ending arm injury just days before reporting to training camp for the 2021 campaign. He finishes his football career having thrown for 1,712 yards and 13 touchdowns for LSU.
Former Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels and sophomore Garrett Nussmeier are now in a two horse race for the starting quarterback position at LSU. The Tigers open the 2022 football season against the Florida State Seminoles at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on September 4th. The Allstate Louisiana Kickoff is set to get underway at 6:30p CT.
