University of Richmond football head coach Russ Huesman announced the addition of Justin Poindexter as running backs coach for the Spiders.

Poindexter brings 13 years of collegiate and professional coaching experience to the Spiders.

Poindexter joins the program after spending the spring at his alma mater, Howard, as the tight ends coach. He spent the 2021 season working at LSU as a defensive analyst on head coach Ed Orgeron's staff helping the Tigers to the Texas Bowl.

Poindexter spent one season as the running backs coach in the XFL with the Tampa Bay Vipers. He helped coach two of the top three running backs in terms of yards gained in the XFL in 2020. He also spent two seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL), working with the Toronto Argonauts as an assistant offensive line coach. He helped the Argonauts win the Grey Cup in 2017, its 17th title in franchise history.

Poindexter spent the 2016 season as an external scout for the Cleveland Browns while also working from 2015-16 at Northwestern as a recruiting assistant on Pat Fitzgerald's staff. He was selected for the NFL's Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship with the San Francisco 49ers.

Poindexter spent two seasons at Southern as the Tight Ends Coach/Video Coordinator. He also made stops at the Big Ten Conference, Howard as a Graduate Assistant Coach working with the tight ends in 2011-12 and began coaching football at Gonzaga College High School in 2010.

He graduated twice from Howard with a Bachelor in Sport Management and also has his Master in Educational Administration and Policy.
