West Virginia’s Jarret Doege (offensive) and Texas Tech’s Austin McNamara (special teams) joined the Oklahoma trio of Jalen Redmond (defensive), Michael Turk (special teams) and Key Lawrence (newcomer) as Big 12 Football Players of the Week. Doege picked up his second career award while the others are first-time honorees.

Doege completed 27-of-43 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in West Virginia’s 31-23 win over Texas. His completions went to nine different receivers. Doege’s 556 career completions rank third in program history while the 238 in 2021 are 10th in single-season school history. The senior from Lubbock, Texas, recorded his 11th multiple-TD pass performance in his WVU career, including his sixth with three scores.  With 6,143 career passing yards, Doege is now fifth in Mountaineer records while his 37 career touchdown passes rank 10th.

Redmond broke a 7-7 tie with a 42-yard fumble return for a touchdown with nine seconds left in the first half and added two tackles (1.5 for loss, one sack) and a career-high four quarterback hurries in Oklahoma's 28-21 win over Iowa State. The four hurries were the most by a Sooner since 2017 and one of them resulted in an OU interception. The scoop-and-score marked OU's first defensive touchdown of the season and was the first fumble returned for a TD since 2018. It was also the Sooners' first for a TD by a defensive lineman in a home game since 1979.

Turk averaged 54.8 yards on his six punts in the Sooners’ win over Iowa State. Five of his punts traveled at least 48 yards, four went at least 56 yards and three were over 60 yards.  Three landed inside the ISU 20-yard line while his shortest punt (a 40-yarder) was downed at the 10-yard line. Turk has eight punts of at least 60 yards this season and 16 of at least 50 yards. He is averaging 52.7 yards per punt in 2021 (the OU single-season record is 47.8 yards).

McNamara snapped the NCAA FBS record for most punts of 50-plus yards in a game in Texas Tech's loss to No. 9 Oklahoma State. He was called on to punt nine times on the night with eight of those traveling at least 50 yards to break the previous FBS record of seven that was set by Colorado's Mark Mariscal in a 2002 game against Southern California. McNamara averaged 56.4 yards per punt overall, which finished just shy of the Texas Tech single-game record of 57.0 yards an attempt that was set by Alex Reyes. It marked the second-highest average for an FBS punter in a game this season as McNamara is now averaging 48.5 yards per attempt, which ranks second in the Big 12.

Lawrence registered seven tackles, a sack for 18 yards and two forced fumbles in OU’s win over the Cyclones. The first of Lawrence's forced fumbles was returned 42 yards for a touchdown by teammate Redmond to give OU a 14-7 lead with nine seconds left in the first half. His two forced fumbles were the most by a Sooner in two seasons.
