If you love college football, and I mean really love it to the point that you'll watch it in any form - "just to scratch that itch," we've got some great news for you. If, however, you expect a certain level of quality in your college football - like the ability to win an FBS game at some point in over two years, this news might not interest you.
In fact, the only people this news may interest are the two fanbases that probably wish their schools were facing someone else.
USF and UConn, two of the most storied programs in college football disappointment, will renew an old Big East rivalry as the athletic departments announced a home-and-home football series starting in 2023.
The series will get started with USF traveling to Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. on Oct. 21, 2023 to face the Huskies. Connecticut is then scheduled to return the favor and travel to Raymond James Stadium for a contest on Sept. 2, 2028.
The Bulls do have some decent non-conference opponents on tap. USF and BYU have a game scheduled for 2026. That's only a few years away... when the the AAC schedule provides competition like Rice and North Texas.
With the addition of the UConn series, USF's 2023 non-conference schedule now has games at Western Kentucky (Sept. 2), vs. Florida A&M (Sept. 9), vs. Alabama (Sept. 16) and at UConn (Oct. 21). At least the Bulls didn't have to take a 2-for-1 deal with the Huskies like they did with Alabama. Granted, the Crimson Tide has averaged over 11 more wins a season than UConn the last decade. But what the Huskies lack in heart and ability, well....
South Florida is 12-5 all-time against the Huskies and 5-4 in games played at East Hartford. The Bulls have won eight straight in the series.
