LAST WEEK
Last week, Temple dropped its fifth game of the season to UCF, 49-7. Trailing 14-0 midway through the second quarter, the Owls were not able to cut the deficit after fumbling in UCF's red zone. A few minutes later, another Temple fumble led to UCF's third touchdown of the game heading into halftime. From there, the Knights outscored the Owls 28-7 in the second half.
LAST TIME VS. ECU @ DOWDY-FICKLEN STADIUM
The last time the Owls played ECU was last November, falling to ECU by a score of 28-3. Entering the game with a severely depleted roster, the Owls lost five defensive players, including four starters, due to COVID-19 protocol issues just prior to the start of the game. This also delayed the start of the contest by 50 minutes. Despite a roster missing so many key players, the Owls fought valiantly, with two back-breaking plays in the second quarter – a 95-yard kickoff return and a 45-yard touchdown pass in the final minute – giving ECU separation, 21-3, heading into the half. A 75-yard run by ECU QB Holton Ahlers led to the only score after intermission. Four freshmen were among Temple's top five leaders in tackles with SAF M.J. Griffin (11) topping the Owls. The others were LB Kobe Wilson (7), LB Jordan Magee (4) and SAF Alex Odom (4). True freshman quarterback Kamal Gray received his first career start. Before then, the last time a true freshman started at QB for the Owls was in 2013 (P.J. Walker).
LAST TIME VS. ECU
The last time that these two sides met in Greenville was back in October of 2019, when Temple came away with a 27-17 win over the Pirates in its first conference game of the season. With the score tied 10-10 midway through the second quarter, the Owls scored 17 straight points courtesy of a one-yard rushing score from Re'Mahn Davis and a receiving touchdown from wide receiver Isaiah Wright to put the game to bed. The Owls used a balanced attack on offense throughout the contest, throwing for 253 yards and rushing for 237.
UP NEXT
Up next, the Cherry & White return to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Houston Cougars on November 13. Kickoff is set for 12:00pm and will air on ESPN+.
