Oklahoma men's basketball announced its 2021-22 non-conference schedule Thursday, a slate that features home matchups against Florida and Butler, a Big 12/SEC Challenge game at Auburn, a contest vs. Arkansas in Tulsa and the Myrtle Beach Invitational.
"Our non-conference schedule gives us an amazing opportunity to play high-level games both home and away from Norman," said Oklahoma head coach Porter Moser. "The Big East-Big 12 Battle with Butler at home, Auburn in the Big 12/SEC Challenge as well as games against Arkansas, Central Florida and Florida highlight a phenomenal schedule."
OU opens the season Nov. 1 at home vs. Rogers State in its lone exhibition game of the 2021-22 schedule. It will mark the first time Moser will be on the sideline with the Sooners. The team then starts regular season play Nov. 9 with a Tuesday matchup against Northwestern State. The Sooners are 7-0 against the Demons and last faced them on Dec. 19, 2017, when Trae Young tied an NCAA record with 22 assists in a 105-68 OU win.
OU will continue its homestand against UTSA on Nov. 12, marking the fifth consecutive season the two schools will have played each other. In last season's matchup, the Sooners topped the Roadrunners 105-66 in OU's season opener. UTSA is coached by former Sooners assistant Steve Henson.
Oklahoma is one of eight teams in the Myrtle Beach Invitational, scheduled for Nov. 18-21 in Conway, S.C. The field will also include Davidson (Atlantic 10), East Carolina (The American), Indiana State (Missouri Valley), New Mexico State (Western Athletic), Old Dominion (Conference USA), Penn (Ivy) and Utah State (Mountain West). Pairings will be announced at a later date.
Following OU's trip to South Carolina, the Sooners host Houston Baptist Nov. 24 before heading to Central Florida Nov. 27. Oklahoma earned an 84-65 victory over Houston Baptist in the first ever meeting between the two schools last season.
The Sooners welcome Florida to Norman on Dec. 1 – a game that is a make-up of last year's early season matchup that was canceled – before hosting Butler Dec. 7 as part of the Big East-Big 12 Battle. The matchup against Butler will mark the third straight year for the Big 12 and Big East to engage in individual men's basketball matchups.
Oklahoma and Arkansas are scheduled to play a neutral site contest at the BOK Center in Tulsa on Dec. 11. The Sooners are 2-0 all-time at the venue and have won seven of the last 11 meetings against the Razorbacks.
UT Arlington travels to Norman for a Dec. 19 game and three days later the Sooners host Alcorn State. Oklahoma is 9-0 against the two schools (7-0 against UT Arlington).
The Sooners conclude non-conference action Saturday, Jan. 29 at Auburn as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. OU holds a 2-1 edge over Auburn in the all-time series and has won seven straight overall games against SEC schools.
Oklahoma's complete schedule, with conference games, tip times and TV information, will be revealed at a later date.
