South Alabama men's basketball head coach Richie Riley announced the addition of NAIA transfer guard Chaze Harris for the 2025-26 season.
Harris, a 6-6 guard from Cleveland, Ohio, joins the Jaguar program as a senior after playing last season at NAIA Life University in Marietta, Ga. Harris is coming off a dominant year where he was named NAIA First-Team All-American and Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year after averaging 19.7 points, 6.9 assists, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 59 percent from the field. He racked up eight double-doubles, scored 30 points or more three times, 20 points or more 18 times, and helped the Running Eagles to a 27-7 record and a run to the Round of 16 in the NAIA National Tournament.
" First and foremost, Chaze is an absolute winner, and he's shown that throughout his entire career, " Riley said. " He's a big guard, always playing downhill in both transition and the half-court. He has an incredible basketball IQ and sees the game as well as anyone we've ever brought in here. I'm really excited about the immediate impact that he's going to make in Mobile."
Prior to transferring to Life, Harris spent his sophomore season at NAIA Shawnee State in Portsmouth, Ohio. During his time with the Bears, Harris received First-Team All-Riverside States Conference honors while contributing 19.5 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.5 steals per contest. He scored double figures in 18 out of 19 contests and ranked in the Top Five in the RSC in points, assists, steals, and field goal percentage.
He began his career at Lakeland Community College in Lake County, Ohio, where he tallied 411 points, 162 rebounds, and 104 assists, leading the Lakers to an Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Championship.
Throughout his career, Harris has totaled 1490 points, 527 rebounds, 431 assists, and 157 steals.
Harris is the second transfer to join the Jaguars in the 2025 recruiting cycle. He joins Division ll transfer Brian Hawthorne, and freshmen Desmond Williams, and Samuel Shoptaw as newcomers for South Alabama in the 2025-26 season.
