Led by double-doubles from big men Vladislav Goldin and Danny Wolf, the No. 20-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team took down Ohio State on the road on Sunday at Value City Arena.
Leaders and Best
Goldin scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Wolf followed with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. Nimari Burnett also reached double figures with 11 points. In his return to Columbus, Roddy Gayle Jr. scored nine points and pulled down eight rebounds.
First Half
Michigan started the game 5-for-8 from the field, with Burnett hitting two early three-pointers to give Michigan a 12-10 lead with 15:17 left. Ohio State then strung together three consecutive three-pointers to take a 21-16 lead, starting 5-for-7 from beyond the arc in the first seven minutes.
Back-and-forth play continued over the next 10 minutes, with U-M leading 35-29 at the 3:33 mark. Tschetter hit two three-pointers to reclaim the lead for the Wolverines. In this span, Ohio State went over four minutes without a point—shooting just 1-for-12—but Michigan failed to capitalize, making only one of its last eight shots in the final three and a half minutes.
To close the half, Ohio State outscored Michigan 10-9. On U-M's final possession, Goldin grabbed an offensive rebound and made a putback layup to give the Wolverines a 44-39 lead at the break—finishing the opening period with 12 points.
Second Half
Both teams' offenses were firing in the first half, with Michigan (20-5, 12-2 Big Ten) shooting 58.8 percent and Ohio State (15-11, 7-8 Big Ten) shooting 57.1 percent in the first 10 minutes. Tre Donaldson had a stretch with six consecutive points while Michigan opened 7-for-10 from the field, but the Buckeyes rallied to retake the lead, 65-63, with 12:34 remaining.
Ohio State proceeded to make just one of its next eight attempts, but the Wolverines endured a three-minute scoring drought, keeping the contest tight. A rebound and layup from Will Tschetter ended U-M's slump, and Wolf added another basket to give Michigan a 71-68 lead at the under-eight timeout.
Michigan hit five of its next six field goal attempts while Ohio State went over three minutes without a basket, and the Wolverines led 78-73 with 4:09 remaining. The Buckeyes responded, tying the game at 80 and forcing a Michigan timeout with 1:54 left.
Turning Point
With the game tied at 80 with under two minutes to go, Gayle gave Michigan an 82-80 lead. After a defensive stop and another U-M basket, Ohio State made a three-pointer with 32 seconds left to make it 84-83. Wolf then made one of two free throw attempts before Michigan's defense forced a Buckeye miss, with Rubin Jones grabbing the rebound to seal the 86-83 victory.

Michigan will return to Ann Arbor to host No. 11 Michigan State in an in-state battle to stay atop the Big Ten standings at Crisler Center for U-M's annual Maize Out on Friday (Feb. 21). The game will be broadcast live on Fox, with tipoff set for 8 p.m.
