The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team earned a much-needed win, holding off a late Long Beach State rally in a 62-60 nail biter Thursday night at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

With the victory, the Rainbow Warriors (14-11, 6-8 Big West) snapped a two-game skid and earned a season split with Long Beach State (7-19, 3-11).

UH led for the near entirety of the game, but it wasn't easy. LBSU nearly erased a double-digit deficit in the final four minutes, but the Warriors were saved by the heroics of Marcus Greene who scored the team's final four points. Greene hit a jumper with 35 seconds left to give UH a five-point cushion and sealed the win with two free throws with five seconds remaining.

Greene finished with 10 points for a balanced attack that saw Ryan Rapp also score 10. Harry Rouhliadeff provided early energy and posted nine points and nine rebounds.

UH gave one of its best defensive efforts of the season, holding the Beach to just 38 percent shooting. LBSU, which hit 10-of-13 three-pointers in the first meeting between the teams, went just 5-of-16 (31 percent) this time around.

Devin Askew, one of the league's top scorers, had 16 points, but was hounded to just 5-of-20 shooting. TJ Wainwright, who fueled the late LBSU rally, led the Beach with 20 points.

The first half was a slugfest as the team's combined to miss 19 of their first 26 shots. Despite committing 12 turnovers, the 'Bows held a 29-24 lead at the break by holding the Beach to just 35 percent shooting and draining 10-of-12 free throws. Rouhliadeff was active for the 'Bows with seven points and five rebounds in the first half.

LBSU made its first shot of the second half to cut the margin to three, but missed its next six shots. That allowed the 'Bows to build some breathing room as a Rapp free throw gave UH a nine-point lead less than five minutes into the half.

UH went up by as many as a dozen as Gytis Nemeikša's bucket gave the 'Bows a 45-33 lead with 9:30 left in the game. UH led by 11 with 3:43 left, but LBSU had one last push.

Wainwright made a three-pointer then drained three free throws cut it to 57-52 with 2:41 left. After a UH free throw, Wainwright hit another three-pointer to make it a 58-55 game with 1:25 remaining.

Greene answered with a jumper with 35 seconds left to give UH a 60-55 lead. The 'Bows missed the front end of one-and-one and Kam Martin drained a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to make it 60-58. On the ensuing inbound play, Greene corralled a loose ball and was fouled. He made both free throws to make it a four-point game and an LBSU bucket at the buzzer accounted for the final margin.

The 'Bows shot 53 percent for the game, dominated the boards, 34-20, and committed just four turnovers after intermission to seal the win.

The Rainbow Warriors will next host conference co-leader UC Irvine on Saturday, Feb. 15. Tipoff is 7:00 p.m.
