The Georgia State men's basketball team held Buffalo to just 15.2 percent from 3-point range in a 5-for-33 shooting performance on the way to an 80-75 win over the Bulls on the road Saturday.
The Panthers (10-15) had five players score in double figures, led by Malachi Brown, who had 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Jelani Hamilton tacked on 14 points and two steals and Zarique Nutter chipped in as well with 13 points and five assists off the bench.
Georgia State shared the ball well in Saturday's game, racking up 16 assists on 27 made field goals. Brown's six assists led the Panthers.
Georgia State's defense held Buffalo to only 33.3 percent shooting from the field, including 15.2 percent from beyond the arc. The Panthers also limited Ryan Sabol to 3-of-18 shooting in the game.
How It Happened
After playing to a 13-13 tie, Georgia State went on a 9-0 run with 9:46 left in the first half to take a 22-13 lead. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 38-31 advantage. Georgia State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 38 points close to the basket.
Georgia State kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 71-59 with 2:05 to go in the contest. The Bulls narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still held on for the 80-75 win. Georgia State capitalized on six Buffalo turnovers in the period, collecting 12 points off those turnovers.
