The Miami University men's basketball team topped Air Force 73-60 Monday night. Peter Suder led all players with a career-high 42 points (17-of-21 from the field), the most from a RedHawk since Wally Szczerbiak scored 43 in 1999.
How it Happened:
- Miami opened the contest with a 9-2 lead thanks to a layup and triple from Suder. Air Force responded by taking its first lead of the game at 13-11 with 12:44 on the game clock. Suder stayed hot from the field, knocking down back-to-back jump shots to help Miami regain the lead at 15-13.
- A pair of jumpers from Eian Elmer and Suder put Miami ahead 21-16. The Falcons once again regained the lead at 23-21. With three minutes left before the intermission, Suder put in a three to even the score at 26-26. The Red and White entered halftime trailing 30-29. Suder accounted for 17 of the 29 points scored by Miami entering halftime.
- Suder picked up in the second half where he left off, opening the period with a traditional three-point play. Antwone Woolfolk and Elmer each recorded a jump shot to put Miami on top 36-35. With Air Force leading 37-36, the Red and White went on a 9-0 run to pull away at 45-37 with 11:59 to play. The Falcons' defense attempted to trap Suder in the right corner before he threaded the ball to Luke Skaljac for three to increase the score to 48-39.
- The Falcons closed within four at 56-52 but came no closer, as the RedHawks went on to close out the game by out-scoring Air Force 17-8 down the stretch. Suder helped seal a 73-60 win by scoring 14 of the RedHawks' final 17 points.
