Memphis men's basketball head coach Penny Hardaway and his staff officially announced the addition of sharpshooter PJ Carter to the squad for 2024-25.
A 3-point threat with size, Carter transfers within the American Athletic Conference to Memphis after spending last season at UTSA. Prior to that, Carter was an all-conference performer at Georgia Highlands College in 2021-22 after playing his first two collegiate seasons at Campbell University (2019-21).

The 6-foot-5 wing appeared in 31 games with 10 starts for the Roadrunners last season, averaging 9.5 points and 19.8 minutes per game. Carter contributed 2.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists, but he left his biggest mark along the perimeter.
Carter shot 40.3 percent beyond the arc (52-of-129) for UTSA, good enough for sixth in the AAC last season. He connected on a season-best six triples in a win over Temple on March 10, en route to a career-high 27 points. He made five 3-pointers in two other road games at SMU and Charlotte.
The Atlanta, Georgia native also came on strong late for the Roadrunners, averaging 14.7 points a game over the final nine games of the season − a stretch that included three-straight wins over North Texas, Temple and SMU for a team that finished with just 11 victories.
The season before at Georgia Highlands, Carter hit 43 percent of his long-range attempts (86-of-200), which was tied for the 46th-best rate in the NJCAA. He earned first team All-GCAA honors while helping the Chargers to a 23-10 season that went all the way to the GCAA Championship final.
He scored a team-leading 16.3 points per outing while coming off the bench in 29 of the 33 games he played. Carter scored double figures in 29 contests while shooting 46.6 percent from the floor overall and 79.5 percent from the free throw line.
