Jeremy Roach led the team with 16 points, including a season-high four 3-pointers, and was joined in double-figures by Kyle Filipowski, Mark Mitchell, Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster - who scored 15, 15, 12 and 11, respectively.
The Blue Devils (21-5, 12-3 ACC) recorded 19 assists on 28 made field goals and out-rebounded the Hurricanes (15-12, 6-10 ACC) by a margin of 11, 42-31.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jared McCain picked up from where he left off at Florida State, knocking down a three-pointer for Duke's first basket of the game. A layup and dunk on back-to-back possessions by Mark Mitchell gave the sophomore seven early points and Duke a 10-7 lead at the first media timeout.
- A pull-up three-pointer followed by a reverse slam, both from Kyle Filipowski, pushed Duke ahead, 16-9, with 11:50 on the clock. Tyrese Proctor connected on a three-pointer of his own at the 10-minute mark and Jeremy Roach sank two free-throws to re-establish Duke's seven-point lead, 21-14.
- Caleb Foster drilled a shot from distance to make it an eight-point scoring run for the Blue Devils, forcing a Miami timeout at the 8:07 mark of the first half. Another make from beyond the arc by Foster and a fast-break jam from McCain pushed the scoring run to 13 straight and triggered another Miami timeout.
- Three straight three-pointers from Roach made him the first player in double-figures and extended Duke's scoring run to 19-4 over eight minutes of action. The Blue Devils took a 17-point lead, 40-23, into the halftime break.
- Duke remained hot from deep to start the second half, with Filipowski and Roach both connecting on shots from beyond the arc right out of the break. Mitchell and Foster continued the shooting performance with three-pointers of their own, making it a 54-31 edge with 15 minutes remaining.
- The Blue Devils' lead continued to hover around 20 as the clock ticked under 10 minutes to go. Filipowski reached double-figures from the free throw line following a flagrant foul, becoming the third Duke player to eclipse 10 points for the game. Following a Miami timeout with 8:36 remaining, the Blue Devils scored six quick points to open up a 67-42 advantage at the under-eight media timeout. Ryan Young and Neal Begovich each got into the scoresheet to close out the 84-55 victory.
