Tamin Lipsey took control of the game in the second half as No. 14 Iowa State held off Dylan Disu and Texas, 70-65, at the Moody Center Tuesday night for its first win in Austin since 2015 and just the third in program history.
The Cyclones led from start to finish but Texas was able to trim a 17-point halftime deficit to just three points after Disu hit a pair of free throws with just under 3:00 left following a 9-0 Longhorn run.
But it was Lipsey that made plays down the stretch, including a clutch 3-pointer and an assist to Tre King for a dunk with 0:15 left that gave ISU a five-point lead at 68-63 and all but sealed the deal.
Lipsey finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Disu scored a game-high 28 points, including 22 in the second half while UT outscored the Cyclones, 46-34.
Iowa State salvaged a split on the current road trip to improve to 17-5 overall and 6-3 in Big 12 action. Texas drops to 15-8 overall and 4-6 in conference play.
