Capping its three-game road trip against a ranked foe, Stanford men's basketball fell late to No. 11 Arizona, 82-71, at McKale Center.
Maxime Raynaud scored a career-high 29 points, making 11 of 19 from the field and five of his six 3-point attempts. Michael Jones added 21 with five made triples, while Brandon Angel joined the duo in double figures with 10. Benny Gealer, earning his first career start, tallied a career-high with nine assists.
Stanford jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first half, led by 21 points in the opening 20 minutes from Raynaud. The Cardinal made nine 3-pointers in the first period and held its largest lead of the game at the half, 45-34. The Cardinal scored 15 of the half's final 17 points, led by eight from Michael Jones.
Arizona responded in the second half, opening the period on a 25-7 run to take the lead. Stanford pulled within two, 61-59, on a Raynaud triple with 7:42 to go, while it was a four-point game with 4:17 to play, 69-65, after back-to-back triples from Angel. The Wildcats made five free throws late to secure the result.
Stanford earns a regular season split with Arizona, having downed the then-No. 4 Wildcats on Dec. 31, 100-82.
The Cardinal returns home for a Wednesday, Feb. 7 matchup with UCLA. The 6 p.m. tip will air on Pac-12 Network.
