The Wichita State men's basketball team defeated USF, 80-63, on Saturday afternoon inside of Charles Koch Arena to clinch the American Athletic Conference regular season championship.
The Shockers clinch their first American Athletic Conference title. Wichita State is in its fourth season as a member of the league.
Wichita State clinches the No. 1 seed in the AAC Tournament next weekend.
The Shockers used a 25-7 run that lasted from the 3:38 mark of the first half until the 15:25 mark in the second half to put themselves ahead.
From that point on, Wichita State kept maintaining their distance and led by as many as 28 in the final half of play.
Tyson Etienne led the Shockers in scoring. He made 6 three-pointers on his way to 21 points.
Dexter Dennis and Morris Udeze were both in double figures as well. Dennis scored 14 points and Udeze scored 12 while adding seven rebounds.
Wichita State honored its seniors Alterique Gilbert, Trey Wade, Brycen Bush and Jacob Herrs. That group combined for 17 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.
The Shockers have won seven games in a row heading into the postseason. Wichita State improved its home winning streak to nine games and 11 straight conference home wins.
The Shockers return to action at 11 a.m. on Friday for a matchup against the winner of the USF-Temple matchup at Dickes Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
