The Arizona men's basketball program and head coach Tommy Lloyd announced the signing of Lithuanian Paulius Murauskas to a National Letter of Intent. Murauskas will join the Wildcats as a freshman for the 2023-24 season.
"Paulius has developed in one of the top youth systems in Europe and has had success at all levels," Lloyd said. "He is a dynamic forward that continues our emphasis on recruiting the best student-athletes we can from around the world. He is just scratching the surface of his potential, so we are excited to welcome to our program and look forward to helping him grow all areas of his game."
The 6-foot-8 forward averaged a tournament-high 20.7 points per game at the FIBA U18 European Championship last summer while also grabbing six rebounds and handing out 2.7 assists. He scored 32 points in 28 minutes of the seventh-place game against Israel.
This past season, Murauskas played for Lietkabelis in Lithania, competing in the Lithuanian first division and EuroCup. Over the 61 games, he averaged six points and three rebounds while playing just 15 minutes per game. He shot 68% inside the arc and 34% from the 3-point line.
Murauskas initially played for BC Zalgiris Kaunas youth team and made his debut with them during the 2019-20 season before moving up the Zalgiris main squad in 2020-21. He then played for Nevezis Kediainai in 2021-22 before moving to Lietkabelis Panevezys this year.
He also played for the Lithuanian U16 National Team in 2019 at the European Championships, where he averaged 12.3 points and 7.7 rebounds.
