The Roadrunners have added a pair of new members to the UTSA men's basketball roster for the 2023-24 season, as head coach Steve Henson announced the addition of transfers Trey Edmonds and Adante' Holiman to next year's squad.
Edmonds is a 6-foot-10, 250-pound forward/center originally from the Denver metro, coming to UTSA following two seasons at Utah Tech. He appeared in 33 games with one start for the Trailblazers in 2022-23, averaging 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9.2 minutes per game – shooting 46.8 percent from the floor. Last season, he put up season-highs of 11 points at Arizona and six (6) boards against both Grand Canyon and Lindenwood. He also played in 20 games as a rookie coming out of Denver's George Washington High School, where he averaged 10.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks as a senior and led his team to a CHSAA Class 5A State Runner-Up finish. Edmonds was a four-year letterwinner at GWHS and off the court was an Honor Roll student and Speech and Debate Champion. His father, Fred Edmonds was a mainstay at Colorado, leading the Buffs in rebounding and was second in scoring, playing alongside Chauncey Billups to produce one of CU's best seasons during his senior year – going on to play professionally overseas.
"Trey brings an incredible physical presence to our team," Henson said. "He has great size and strength and will help to set the tone for us. Having already played two seasons at the Division I level, he brings a level of experience that we will lean on. We are very excited for Trey to arrive on campus and get started with our program."
Holiman is a 6-foot, 160-pound point guard coming off a very successful rookie campaign at UT Rio Grande Valley. Hailing from McAlester, Okla., Holiman was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Oklahoma by ESPN coming out of McAlester High School. He was the school's all-time scoring leader with 2,392 points – ranking among the top 50 in Oklahoma history. During his senior campaign, he averaged 32 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals per game, earning him All-State, Region 6 Male Athlete of the Year and McAlester News-Capital All-Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors. Last season at UTRGV, Holiman played in 24 games and started 11 for the Vaqueros, averaging 7.5 points and 3.0 assists on 44.7% shooting from the field and 43.5% shooting from the perimeter – and was a four-time WAC Freshman of the Week. Holiman comes to San Antonio with early career-highs of 18 points and nine (9) assists in games as a rookie, scoring in double-figures nine times and leading the team in assists in six games. He comes from a basketball family having been coached by his father Will, with two younger siblings expected to play college basketball.
"We are extremely excited about adding Adante' to our ball club," Henson said. "His speed and strength at the point guard position will be a great asset in our program next season. His ability to get downhill and get in the paint is exactly what we need. He is a true point guard with a pass-first mentality, while also being an efficient scorer. Te' is a great kid on and off the court and we are fortunate to have him in our program."
