The University of Maine Black Bears took down the Eagles of Boston College Monday night, 69-64. Maine never trailed in the winning performance.

The Black Bears got out to an early 6-point lead as they grabbed an 11-3 lead as Kellen Tynes got the Black Bears offense going early with a pair of tough shots in the painted area.

The Eagles began to battle back before Ja'Shonté Wright-McLeish hit a buzzer-beating floater in the lane right before the under-12 media timeout, halting a 5-point run by the Eagles.

Peter Filipovity and Kellen Tynes combined for the play of the opening half as Tynes dished out a no-look pass and Filipovity drained the shot and drew the foul for the four-point play.

Following a layup by the Eagles, Maine answered by going on a 11-0 run to crow their early lead to double-digits at 29-18 before Boston College could answer with a jumper by Makai Ashton-Langford.

Jaeden Zackery (9 points) trimmed the Maine led to a 34-30 for the Black Bears heading into the half as he hit a nearly half-court shot as time expired to get his squad to within four. Zackery's nine points led the Eagles in scoring heading into the half.

Kellen Tynes was doing it all in the opening half for the Black Bears as he had a 8/5/4 stat line heading into the locker room. Ja'Shonté Wright-McLeish led all scorers with 10 points in the opening 20 minutes.

The Black Bears started off the second half a perfect 3 for 3 from the field, going on a quick 7-0 run to push the lead back to double-digits. Kristians Feierbergs was responsible for five of the seven quick points.

The Eagles trimmed the deficit back to single digits as they went on an 8-0 run to make it a 47-42 contest. Makai Ashton-Langford capped off the run with a layup in transition.

Maine pushed the lead back to their the largest of the game, 12 points, following a Jaden Clayton layup.

The Eagles got the momentum back for their side as they went on an 8-0 run, capped off by a CJ Penha layup as the score stood at 58-54 with just under seven minutes remaining in the contest.

The two sides began trading baskets down the stretch before the Black Bears forced a turnover with 18 seconds left in the contest, forcing the Eagles into fouling, where the Black Bears were able to hit their free throws and grabbing their second win on the young season.

The Black Bears were led by the double-double performance by Kellen Tynes, who scored 17 points and had a career-best 10 rebounds in the winning effort. He also dished out five assists, had a pair of steals and a block.

Peter Filipovity came off the bench to have another big night for the Black Bears, scoring 16 on six of 10 shooting from the field. He also had five rebounds.

Ja'Shonté Wright-McLeish (12) and Kristians Feiebergs (11) scored double-digits for the Black Bears.

Maine (2-1, 0-0) are back in Orono as they welcome Columbia on Friday, Nov. 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
