The Big 12 Conference, the SEC and ESPN announced on Tuesday that TCU's Jan. 28 game at Mississippi State will begin at 3 p.m. and air on ESPN2.
TCU leads the all-time series with MSU, 3-1, and has won the previous two meetings. The last time the two teams met was on Nov. 29, 2014 in Corpus Christi, Texas. TCU won the game, 61-52, in the championship game of the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic. The Frogs played at the Bulldogs in their first SEC/Big 12 Challenge event on Dec. 5, 2013 and won 71-61.
TCU has a 5-4 record all-time in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge following a 77-68 win over No. 19 LSU last season.
Big 12 teams are 48-41 (.539) in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. The Big 12 has a yearly Challenge record of 4-3-2 with wins in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019. One game was canceled in 2021 due to COVID. Ties occurred in 2017 and 2020.
Mississippi State was 18-16 overall last season and 8-10 with a 10th place finish in the SEC. MSU made the NIT, which was their fourth-straight postseason appearance. In March, the Bulldogs hired former New Mexico State head coach Chris Jans to lead their program.
This past season, TCU finished with a record of 21-13 overall and 8-10 with a fifth-place finish in the Big 12. Its schedule ranked as the sixth toughest in the country. The Horned Frogs return all five starters from last season's team which made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 35 seasons. Included in the returners are All-Big 12 Conference players Damion Baugh, Mike Miles and Emanuel Miller.
