USA Basketball announced on May 10 the 27 players who will be part of the USA Basketball U18 Team Training Camp. Providence incoming freshman guard Corey Floyd (Franklin, N.J.) will be one of the players who will attend the camp and compete for a spot on the roster to represent USA Basketball at the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Championship in Tijuana, Mexico from June 6-12.

Floyd and 26 others will attend training camp from May 26-June 2 in Houston, Texas.  Floyd will try to earn one of the 12 spots on Team USA.

Floyd, who attended the University of Connecticut in 2021-22, played for the Huskies but he did not compete in any games.  He will begin his first season for the Friars this fall and he will have four seasons left to compete.  Floyd is a 6-3, 210-pound guard.  He graduated from Roselle (N.J.) Catholic High School in 2021.  Floyd was a three-year starter for Roselle Catholic.  In his final season of high school competition, he averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists.  In July of 2021, he helped Team Final capture the prestigious Peach Jam title by scoring 12 points, dishing off five assists and grabbing four rebounds in the championship game.  Floyd was a four-star recruit, who was ranked No. 93 by 247Sports.com.  ESPN.com ranked him as the 33rd best shooting guard in the nation.  His father, Corey, played two seasons for the Friars (1991 and 1992).

Friar Head Coach Ed Cooley served as an assistant coach for the USA U18 Team in 2014.  That squad captured a gold medal at the FIBA Americas Championship.

"I am very happy for Corey," Cooley said.  "Anytime you have an opportunity to represent your country it is a well deserved honor. This will help him grow as a player and a person as he will be competing against some of the best players in the U.S. at the training camp."
