Old Dominion University head men's basketball coach Jeff Jones announced the signing of Dericko Williams as part of the 2022 recruiting class. Williams is a 6-foot-8, 215 pound forward from Kinston, North Carolina who joins the Monarchs from Tallahassee Community College.
"The first thing people notice about Dericko is his explosive athleticism, but the thing that sets him apart is his incredible work ethic," Jones said. "He will be a favorite of Monarch Nation!"
Williams finished the year at Tallahassee CC as the Eagles' leading scorer averaging 11.4 points and a team best 7.7 rebounds per game. He shot 53.8% from the field, good for second in the Panhandle Conference and fifth in Region VIII. A defensive menace in the paint, Williams averaged 1.5 blocks per game, also the fifth highest in Region VIII. Williams scored a season high 23 points twice and was named First Team All-Panhandle Conference in 2021-22.
He previously attended UNC Greensboro where he saw action in 18 games during the 2020-21 season. Williams had a season best six points twice and four rebounds on three occasions. He joined UNCG after attending Winston Salem Prep as a senior and York Prep for his junior year where he averaged a double-double. Williams was the 10th-ranked player in North Carolina out of high school and had offers from Arkansas, Houston, Kansas State and North Carolina.
"I am very excited to get to work with my teammates and coaches for the upcoming season. I can't wait to get going and am looking forward to being a Monarch," said Williams.
