East Carolina embarks on a two-game road swing this weekend, beginning Saturday versus Tulane in New Orleans. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the contest will air on ESPN+.
ECU will attempt to sweep the season series from the Green Wave after picking up an 88-80 overtime win back on Jan. 5 in Greenville. Tristen Newton scored a career-high 32 points in the victory, including 28 in the second half and overtime periods.
The Pirates fell to Temple 71-63 Wednesday night inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. Tristen Newton netted a squad-high 22 points to go along with four assists while Vance Jackson contributed 18 points and seven rebounds. Tremont Robinson-White was the other double-figure scorer for the Pirates, notching 10 points, four assists and three steals.
East Carolina hit 19 of 58 attempts from the floor to finish at 32.8 percent. Temple shot 41.2 percent (21 of 51) and outrebounded the Pirates 42-35. The teams combined for 28 turnovers and 15 steals while the officials whistled the sides for 44 personal fouls which resulted in each club hitting at least 20 free throws.
ECU seeks its first true road win of the season, having lost at Temple, Cincinnati, Houston and Memphis. The Pirates are 1-7 away from Minges Coliseum with their lone victory a 73-60 decision over Old Dominion at the Myrtle Beach Invitational Nov. 19.
The Competition
Tulane (9-10, 6-4 AAC) enters the contest off of a 73-62 loss at No. 6 Houston. Sophomore forward Kevin Cross scored a team-high 17 points while Tylan Pope came off the bench to score 14. The Green Wave shot just 33 percent from the field and was outrebounded by the Cougars, 45-36. Tulane is the top three-point shooting team in the league, converting 37 percent of attempts beyond the arc.
The Tulane Series
East Carolina leads the all-time series with Tulane, 17-15. The Pirates have won five of the last six meetings in New Orleans.
Temple Leftovers
The Pirates fell to 4-9 all time against Temple ... ECU lost its third-straight home game after beginning the season 10-0 inside Minges Coliseum ... Newton has scored in double figures in all but one contest this year and posted his sixth game of netting at least 20 points.
