Following two wins to open C-USA play, LA Tech sophomore Cobe Williams earned his first weekly Conference USA honor of the season as he was named the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced.

Additionally, North Texas’ Aaron Scott earned his first C-USA recognition as he was named the Freshman of the Week. The 2021 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by the league’s men’s basketball communications directors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
COBE WILLIAMS, LA TECH
SOPHOMORE, G, 6-0, DALLAS, TEXAS
Williams came into the first weekend of C-USA play averaging seven points a game and proceeded to average 20 points while shooting 62 percent from the field and 43 percent from three in the two victories over Marshall and WKU. In the C-USA opener, he tallied a career-high 22 points, while also helping to hold the Herd to a season-low 56 points. The point guard turned around on Saturday and helped the Bulldogs overcome a 17-point deficit to pull off their largest come-from-behind victory in Thomas Assembly Center history. With one minute to go, he scored eight-straight points, including back-to-back threes, to tie things up at 72-72. He was key in LA Tech being named ESPN’s Team of the Week following the two victories.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
AARON SCOTT, NORTH TEXAS
FRESHMAN, G/F, 6-7, SPRING, TEXAS
Scott had a game-high 10 rebounds and five offensive rebounds to go along with eight points in the Mean Green's 75-43 win over Rice Saturday. UNT as a team had 28 offensive rebounds, which is the most a C-USA team has had in a league game in over 10 years. Scott was crucial as he came off the bench and grabbed five offensive boards that all led to second-chance buckets. UNT as a team finished with 23 second-chance points. Scott scored his eight points in 27 minutes on 3-of-6 shooting. He finished with a plus/minus of +30, which led all players.
