The University of Houston men's basketball team defeated the Oklahoma State Cowboys inside Dickies Arena as part of Hoop Hype XL | College Basketball Showcase, 72-61.

Game Flow

  • After a back-and-forth, close first 10 minutes of play, the Cowboys found themselves down nine when Houston went on a 10-0 run to take a 21-11 lead.
  • Continuing to hang in the game, Oklahoma State clawed back within five following a 7-0 run to finish the half and trailed just 35-30 at the break. The run continued into the second half, totaling 13-0, when the Cowboys were able to take a 36-35 lead.
  • Despite taking a lead in the second half the Cougars were able to regain control of the game by taking an eight-point lead with under 10 minutes to play.
  • Oklahoma State was able to hang around with a late 7-0 run to bring it within one possession but, it wasn't enough, and Houston walked away with a 72-61 win.

 
Game Notes

  • Bryce Williams led OSU in scoring, with 17 on 12-13 from the free throw line, which was the third time in the last five games that he had done so. It was also the fifth time in six games that he had reached double figures.
  • The 12 made free throws also tied him for 10th all-time in OSU's history for most made free throws in a game. Kalib Boone Was the most recent to make 12 in a game when he did so on February 15, 2020, against Texas Tech
  • He also recorded five steals, which became a new career high. He had hit the four steals mark three times prior with the most recent coming against UMass Lowell this season.
  • Coming into the game the Cougars were ninth in the nation in turnover margin and turning the ball over only 10.5 times per game. Oklahoma State won the turnover battle, and the defense was able to force the Houston offense into 19 turnovers.
  • They also ranked 22nd in rebound margin prior to the game and were out-rebounding their opponents by 8.7 boards per game. OSU was able to stymie the Cougars on the board by only losing the rebounding battle by four.
